In general there are three different areas that gerontologists are trained in as they are going to school. First, they study the physical, mental and social changes that occur as people begin to age.

Throughout the time that you are working with a patient, it is important that you are able to provide the patient with the best possible care no matter how their condition affects your emotions. This can be difficult when you first begin working in the nursing field.

A nurse will also be required to multitask on a consistent basis. You want to make sure that you are able to be organized and work quickly on a variety of tasks to ensure that you do not become overwhelmed while you are working as a nurse.
