Getting a Job in Business Marketing

By Hedrick Lepsch

When you have decided to get a business marketing degree, it is important that you understand which jobs are going to fit your degree. Many people struggle figuring out how to start their career after they have been presented with their degree.

Making common mistakes on a professional resume is, as the word suggests, common, but can largely be avoided by recent college graduates if they are aware of what the most common resume blunders are and how to rectify them. By so doing, the college grad looking for that prized career will be able to do so with a functioning and useful resume, instead of a resume that screams incompetence or naivety.

The first and most common mistake of recent college grads is making their resume to lengthy. Studies have shown that hiring managers typically decide whether or not to pursue a candidate after only twenty to thirty seconds of pursuing their resumes.

If you find a professor that is working on something that you are also passionate about, you may want to apply to be a research assistant. Working closely with your professors can help you gain experience that will be applicable and valuable once you start applying for jobs.

To survive the initial cut and avoid having one's resume shoved to the rejected pile, a resume must be to the point and concise, typically fitting on to one page only.

Beyond the medical benefits of being physically fit, a person can boost their first impressions on others simply by appearing healthy and in good shape. But a first impression does delve deeper than simple superficial factors of a well kempt appearance.

Throughout your time in school, you should also understand the importance of internships. Working throughout the summers can be a great way to develop relationships with companies that have a standing in the business marketing world.

On that same topic of keeping the resume concise, the next major and common mistake that college grads often make when compiling their resume is listing too many extracurricular activities. Hobbies and even organized extracurricular activities should be omitted from a professional resume unless they directly apply to the available position.

For example, while being a member of a college engineer club is a worthy extracurricular activity, its relevance for a position in business administration may be questioned. In the same token, however, if the application is for a job in engineering, then membership in the college's engineer club is worth noting.

After developing relationships with companies and developing relationship with your professors, you may find that job opportunities are much easier to find after graduation. Working to find job openings throughout your time in school is extremely beneficial after you graduate.

grad could list the job duties of the construction worker to relate to the field they are applying for. Construction and business administration may have little to do with each other on the outside, but the duties of the construction worker can easily be listed to promote qualifications of an individual on a business administration resume

Understanding what it takes to make and leave a quality first impression on others can be used as a great tool for those who are looking to succeed in the professional world. Job interviews, networking, and attracting new clients are all situations in which a person will want to know how to make and leave a good first impression.
