Advantages of Trading in the Forex Market

By James Cameron

Forex trading has become more popular in the past decade as market watchers have seen a lot of potential in this industry. This article will discuss some of the reasons why you should consider trading in this market as well.

Perhaps the main advantage of the forex market over the other kinds of financial markets is that it is open all day during weekdays. Equities or futures markets are limited to the market hours in the local exchanges whereas the foreign exchange market is open whenever a financial market is, whether it's in Tokyo or London. The forex market is open as early as the Sydney market in Monday and closes only when the New York closing bell rings on Friday.

Aside from that, trading the forex market will allow one to enjoy high liquidity conditions. This is so because currencies around the globe are included in the transactions, which means that you are trading with all traders in the world. With that, order execution is almost instantly done as you are able to enter or exit your trade as soon as you click on the orders. This is a trading condition not always enjoyed by stocks or futures traders who might need to wait for their broker to find another party who will take the opposite side of their trade.

Operating as a decentralized exchange also provides a benefit to forex traders as it allows them to enjoy lower transaction costs. There are no middlemen so there's no need to pay commission or clearing fees. The only costs involved come in the brokers' bid-ask spreads, but these are usually low since forex brokers compete to give the best rates possible.

The easy access to information is also another perk to forex trading. Updates on major economies can be found almost anywhere as there are forex calendars that are instantly updated while television channels catering to financial audiences show market events or speeches live.

Because of that, monitoring what's driving price action is more convenient. Forex traders simply need to keep track of economic performance of major economies, which is an easier feat compared to watching companies of several stocks whose information isn't always completely disclosed.

These are just some of the advantages of trading in the forex market. Of course, as with any other markets, learning the basics is still important as trading involves several aspects such as technical and fundamental analysis.
