In addition, it is more likely that some of the other families will have children the same age your child so he or she will have friends to play with. This will help him or her develop social skills and be entertained when you need to take care of several household tasks. It is also more likely that the home you purchase will have had a family living in it previously. If this is the case, then the home may also be already baby proofed.

It is very important that your home is baby proofed, or made safe for your young child. Even if the home is not currently that way when you purchase it, you will need to make it that way. There are several things that you can do to baby proof your home. The first thing you should definitely know is that the crib slats should not be further than 2 3/8 of an inch apart from each other. If there is a wider gap, there is a change that the baby could roll around in his or her sleep and get his or her head caught in the gaps. This is very dangerous because if you do not notice what is happening, he or she could suffocate.

The second thing that you need to make sure is not lying around is soft bedding. Some types of soft bedding can hinder the child's ability to breathe and he or she could suffocate. While most parents think of this in relation to the child's bed, they do not think of it in relation to other areas of the home. If there is a dangerous blanket in the living room, your mini-me could find it and get into trouble.

As you are taking the time to find a contractor you should also meet with a contractor. There are a lot of people that do not meet with their contractor before they decide to sign a contract and that is a big mistake. You have to be sure that you understand how you are going to choose between many different contractors. Take the time that you need understand how you are going to find the best contractor for your project.

The bathroom potentially contains many hazards that you will need to be careful to remove. The first rule of the bathtub is that a toddler should never be left alone there, for obvious reasons. It is also advisable to put non-stick pads or runners on the bottom in order to minimize the chance of slipping. In addition, you may want to invest in a child proof safety lock for the toilet so that he or she does not get into the water.

Even though this may not seem like very much water, a few small children have drowned in the toilet. If this is the room where you keep the medication, you will also want to make sure that they are kept in a secure location that is out of reach of your growing toddler. Cleaning supplies and other hazardous chemicals should also be kept safely out of reach. Even shavers, blades, curling irons, straighteners, and blow driers pose threats to your son or daughter if they are left out.

The fifth thing that you should make sure you do is put all of your electrical items away properly. These things also threaten electrocution to your son or daughter. Some of the things you should make sure are put away include irons, hair dryers, curling irons, straighteners and so forth. These things can also be hot and your son or daughter may burn themselves on them.

In addition, they could reach hanging cords and pull it and other items on the shelf down on themselves. There are many dangers if these things are not properly put away. It is also a good idea to install toilet lids that lock if they are not already present in the home. The toilet is dirty and you do not want your child to play in it. By keeping him or her out of the toilet, you will prevent drowning and a variety of illnesses that can be obtained from the water. There are many other things that you can do to fully baby proof your home as well.
