Qualifying To Get Manhattan Dental Implants

By Katrina Wheeler

Today, probably unlike anytime in the past, the appearance of the teeth is very important. Everyone wants to have the perfect smile. It used to be mainly performers like singers and actors, who were concerned with looking perfect. Now almost everyone wants the prettiest smile possible. Sometimes it is not needed for cosmetic reasons, but rather for health reasons. Missing teeth can cause problems in talking and/or eating. For some getting Manhattan dental implants is the perfect solution. This procedure restores the tooth or teeth. It looks and feels like the real tooth or teeth.

This procedure replaces either a missing tooth or a group of teeth. Where the root of the tooth would normally be is removed. This root is then replaced with an implant. These are typically made of titanium. This is an excellent material to use because it is strong, durable, and easily fuses with the jawbone.

This titanium component is the new foundation or base for a new crown, denture, or bridge. The titanium can be either mini or standard in size. The standard is the most commonly used. However, some patients for various reasons need the smaller mini size. They do not have jawbones large enough to support the larger in diameter standard ones.

It takes at least two dental sessions to complete. In the first part the surgical procedure is performed that places the screw or implant into the jaw. It can take this screw several months to settle fully into the jaw. Sometimes, while waiting for the settling to occur, a temporary crown may be used. Once healing is complete, the second part of the procedure occurs.

The second step involves adding a post to which the crown can be added. The healing time for this is around two weeks. Once this healing is complete, the final crown is added using an abutment that permanently holds the crown in place.

For some clients, before the titanium screw can be put into the jawbone, bone grafting is needed. The doctor gets a portion of bone from somewhere else on the body. This then is used to replace the jawbone. This procedure can be done in its own stage or as part of the first stage of the implant. All the surgical procedures are done with the patient under intravenous sedation.

Before any of the techniques are done, you must be fully examined by the doctor. He needs to determine if you are a good candidate. This is when he can tell if you possibly may need the bone graft to be done. He will also need to see if your tissues are strong enough to support the new structure.

There are many benefits to getting Manhattan dental implants. You may have suffered tooth loss for a variety of reasons including an accident, gum disease, or tooth decay. Sometimes missing teeth not only affect your smile, but more importantly how you chew and talk. This can make both of these easier. Make sure you choose someone to do this procedure that specializes in the area. They should continue to get training on new techniques. If done properly, you can have your own beautiful smile back.
