Good Communication Is The Key To IM Success

By Bridgette Samuels

When you are new to online marketing, the field can seem very intimidating, especially if you don't possess any knowledge of the field. You've likely already skimmed over several articles and forum posts that are filled with information on how to be the next "big thing". Those lists probably all negate one other.

One will say that you must be patient if you want Lead Generation to be the next big thing. Having a high business aptitude is one more claim often made by these lists. Still, others will tell you that creativity is the secret to wild and fabulous success. And don't forget about all of the pages telling you that the software program they offer is what will help you become an Internet marketing success.

Know this fact: The rest of these things are crucial (not so much the software package, but the others). Business smarts, creativity and patience are all incredibly essential to your success in IM. Nonetheless, none of those things are going to matter if you are not able to intelligibly communicate all of them to the people you want to do business with you.

There is more to good communication than putting up an impressive sales page. You can get a highly competent copywriter to take care of that for you. A pretty site and extensive FAQ are not what you need for good communication. A good designer and writer can give you those. Being a good communicator calls for learning to handle interpersonal communication as well as your copy and site. So, what exactly should you do to accomplish that that?

1. Reply to every email sent to you within 24 hours of it hitting your inbox. We aren't jesting with you. You don't need to write a a long reply for every last email. All you have to do is let the sender know that you have read the email and will be replying to it in full soon. When you do this, try including a a portion of the sender's e-mail. This helps the person you email tell your mail apart from the automated replies that other online marketers employ.

2. Answer your phone. Avoid screening phone calls. When your phone starts ringing, pick it up before it rings three times. Do this even if you genuinely don't wish to talk to the person calling you. There's great news about this rule. You do not have to answer your telephone all day. Instead, have clear business hours during which you can answer calls. Put out these hours on your site and in your voice mail message as well. And, naturally, return phone calls if people were not able to reach you the first time.

3. Follow up with people to make sure that your messages and emails have truly been delivered. This will show the person that you really care about keeping in touch with them. You'll endear yourself more with the people you work with and who purchase from you if you ask them if they have any questions and check to be sure that they understood the points you were trying to make.
