Easy Relief From Exercise-Related Discomfort

By Kamryn Mattson

We all know how important it is to engage is some type of regular exercise. Typically, finding activities that you truly enjoy makes it easier to stick with any type of exercise regime. Even if you love your daily workout, there is no getting around the fact that sometimes exercise and discomfort go hand in hand. There are many ways to make exercise more comfortable and less painful, here are some easy suggestions.

One of the easiest ways to keep comfortable and pain free during a workout is to wear the proper clothing. Compression clothing can be a very handy type of sportswear to consider purchasing. While proponents will say compression gear makes you stronger and keeps muscles from becoming tired, there isn't a ton of evidence to support those claims. However, many people find them extremely comfortable and they do prevent chafing. The red, irritated skin that often accompanies exercise occurs when clothing or skin runs against our skin. It can be extremely painful, which is why runners, walkers and bikers often wear compression shorts and tops.

In addition to compression shorts and tops, there are sleeves and socks to consider. Both of these items can reduce swelling, and for hikers or those walking in a nature area, they can prevent poison ivy and scratches. Some people even say that using these compression socks can reduce the fatigue that follows a big workout or a long run. All of these pieces of compression clothing can be quite expensive, so it's a good idea to look for seasonal sales and clearance items.

If your feet are in pain, exercise (unless you are a professional rower) can be almost impossible. When our footwear doesn't fit properly, this can negatively impact our ability to get a good workout. It doesn't even really matter what type of exercise you are doing. Walking, running, biking, hiking, dance, tennis and just about every activity that requires shoes is hindered severely when your shoes are not comfortable. So you need to find a favorite brand and style that supports your foot properly and is comfortable. When you find this magic pair of shoes, buy an extra pair, so that you can air them out and reduce wear.

Many times when our muscles are sore, we tend to avoid exercise. While engaging in a very intense workout might be a bad idea when you are sore, some exercise and movement actually can speed up healing and keeps you from becoming stiff and sore all over. To make the movement process easier, you can use a device known as a physiological hybrid shape. These are special pain relief products that provide exceptional support to sore muscles. One portion of the shape protects the sore area, while the remaining portions of the shape reach out and take extra strength from muscles that are nearby.

There are many different types of shapes which have been created to provide support and pain relief in many areas of the body commonly prone to muscle aches and strains. There are hybrid shapes for the elbows, knees, shoulders and the upper and lower back. The shapes are easy to apply and stay in place using a strong, hypoallergenic adhesive. Shapes allow more freedom of movement than a brace and are easier to apply than tapes, making them an easy and inexpensive pain relief product.
