Too often an individual may focus so much on the things they aren't good at that they can't see the potential of their talents to help them succeed. More specifically, many of the self-proclaimed "artistically challenged" say they could never become a graphic artist, even though they are enamored of the field of study and by the final product.
It really shouldn't be that difficult right? As any graphic arts professional will tell you though, that's not always the case. Preparing images and documents for publishing in either world requires special consideration and a lot of testing. Here are 2 reasons why.
First, color is printed differently to the screen then it is to a paper. Surely you've heard of RGB (red, green, blue) and CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and key [black]). These are two different methods to overlay colors to get any color you can imagine. Computers use RGB.
Printers use CMYK. Here's why. Computers display color through light. The most complicated combinations of colors in light create the color white.
You can see evidence of this when you shine a white light into a prism. As the light reflects off of the different edges, different colors emerge.
Businesses are always looking for people that can do something with the images, not just create them. Some graphic artists build their careers around this one skill.
They don't need artistic ability with the pen or camera. Other people can do that. They find a talent within themselves for layout instead. And that's just as needed.

Design programs also let you choose CMYK options when designing a document for print. At the root though, you can see that formula is different for both RGB and CMYK, and that's what makes preparing documents for both mediums so hard for graphic design professionals.
The colors you see on the screen (displayed in RGB) aren't necessarily going to print the way you see them, even if the program is set to CMYK. You won't know how well the color comes out until you try it on a printer.
So whether you are creating the art or arranging it beautifully, your talents are much needed. There are several other ways to fit into this field.
