Benefits Of Joining Cancer Social Network

By Cornelia Reyes

Cancer is one of the most feared illnesses and is chronic in nature. The main reason for the fear of this disease is because of the high mortality associated with it and lack of cure especially when in advanced stages. In order to live long, patients must be on continuous medications and some even radiotherapy for their whole lives. This gives them unique challenges that people in normal health may never go through. The social part for these people therefore reduced from the inability to freely interact with the other normal people. This makes cancer social network programs very important for this special group.

The network programs mainly consist of three groups of people. First are there cancer patients, then there are survivors who have been cured and finally a support team. Together these people try to give the patients a normal and comfortable life and make them feel acceptable in the society. The networks could be the websites over the internet or through organized groups.

The benefits of social networks specific to these victims are of essence. The victims get a sense belonging when they have people to interact with who understand their uniqueness. With people who are experiencing the similar situations to interact with, they are able to fill in the gap of loneliness they previously experienced. They are able to share their fears and weaknesses also so in the process socialize and also heal faster.

These Social avenues also provide life experiences lessons learnt from different survivors. Studies revile that life experiences lessons are understood better that lessons that people cannot associate with. People who have suffered the disease longer have experiences a lot in how to handle the challenges that face cancer patients. Their experiences and advice will therefore motive others on how to go about issues when they arise. This also prepares the new patients recently diagnosed of a these diseases on what challenges to expect and the measures to take early enough.

The support team in the groups makes the life of patients bearable. Cancer patients may become weak to a level on requiring help in physical activities. They also incur huge monetary costs for the constant therapies they have to undergo. The support therefore provide the physical help and monetary assistance to enable the patients acquire appropriate medications.

Support team also includes health workers. These people provide the patients with the appropriate information about their diseases. They also offer advice on the medications that they are expected to use and expected side effects. This helps in giving insight to these patients as they battle their diseases.

Most important is the moral support and hope that is created by the survivors. The fact that some patients have gone through the challenges and finally overcame give the current patients hope that the disease they have could get cured one day and let them live a normal life.

The development of Cancer social network today has greater prognosis for these patients. Patients are able to live an optimistic life knowing they are never alone. They also have people to associate with and who can help them when they face any difficulties. The patients are also able to understand the best medications to use for better results.
