Preparing a Child for a Move

By Joseph Tranturder

Moving from one home to another is often a natural step in the progression of life. Changing jobs, schools, or simply wanting something new for their family leads many parents every year to move residences.

And while moving can be a difficult task for any individual, include those who decided to make the move, such a big change can be an incredibly challenging obstacle to overcome for a child. For children, moving is rarely a simple task and even more rarely a pleasant experience.

According to Utah's state website, over 40,000 companies have consistently made their beginnings in the beehive state since 2002. That equates to 400,000 businesses in the last 10 years.

A child, however, does not worry as much about the labor of moving, but rather their primary displeasure for moving is most likely to come from the fact that they have to leave their place of comfort and stability.

Utah also offers a great class of workers. Many of the graduates of the nearby universities have learned the value of hard work, integrity, and honesty in their work.

The process of changing locations of business can be made easier, however, if the owner will follow a few general guidelines on how to properly move an office.

For this reason of leaving all that is comfortable behind, children especially may find moving from one home to another an enormously difficult task. But parents can help prepare their child for the upcoming move by being supportive and helpful to their child throughout the moving process.

The first thing that a parent can do to help prepare their child for an impending move is to remain positive at all times concerning the move. Being positive about the future move is especially important when first breaking the news to the child about the need for a move.

The environment is friendly to starting businesses and the workforce is there for the picking, but that's not the only thing to help you rear a successful business there. The Wasatch Mountains are your stress ball.

Staying positive and excited about moving homes is the first and perhaps best way for a parent to prepare their children for a move.

Mountain climbing, bouldering, hiking, mountain biking, and long walks with a loved one are only just 15-30 minutes away. What better way to escape the stress of starting a new business than finding peace and quiet in nature?

The transition to a new business location will go smoother if an employee is assigned to be in charge of the move. This person in charge can be the owner themselves or another responsible employee, but by having someone assigned to the labor, the move itself will go much better.

But the parent can still allow the child to learn about their new home and local area by helping them perform research online. The more a child knows about the new area they will be living in the more likely they are to be comfortable once the move is over.

Moving with a child can be a difficult task, but by being prepared and by helping the child prepare, a family will be able to make the move with a smoother transition.
