Parking Lot Lighting Is Changing

There are very few people still living who remember when there was no parking lot lighting. As civilization has advanced today this can be found everywhere there are official public lots. This provides safety for both drivers and pedestrians.

Some lots are extensively decorated with special illumination and other attractions. This is usually found where there are important corporate headquarters or other locations that are frequented by important people, investors, or clients. Ordinary places, such as warehouses, usually install the bare minimum required.

Realizing the importance of public safety, cities have laws regarding this kind of illumination. The majority state that 3-4 foot candles must be evenly placed throughout the area. When these are not properly maintained, certain spots throughout the lot will become dark. This not only encourages vandals but also impairs the vehicle driver's vision.

Something else that is in effect in most cities is called the 'dark sky laws'. This requires that the light fittings (luminaires) be of a certain design. These fittings control the area of light and keep it from hitting the street or nearby buildings. It also provides less glare than the old type fittings did.

Because the United States has strict quality controls regarding this type of lighting fixtures, U. S. Brands are considered the best. Not only does the manufacturer offer full warranties but the product is also compatible to modern maintenance, engineering, and replacement options.

Currently there is a great deal of excitement over the use of solar powered parking lot lighting as well as for streets. Commercial solar illumination came to the public's attention in 1994, with the first experiments. In 1999, twelve units were placed at the Anaheim California Golf Club. Following this, in 2001, Baltimore, MD's Fort McHenry had one installed. They have proved to be extremely energy efficient, reduce costs, and meet the country's energy concerns.
