Anchorage AK Back Pain Relief Done Naturally Through Chiropractic Therapy Without Medication

By Lakisha Curtsinger

When you experience back pain, you have several options from which to choose. Unfortunately, many of the choices involve the use of surgery, shots or medication. An Anchorage chiropractor provides an alternative that is not dependant on these types of invasive interventions.

Chiropractors use many methods to help patients experience less pain. Their goal is to restore balance to the body. Restoring balance includes realigning the spine to reducing pressure on the central nervous system. As balance is restored to the body, the natural healing forces take over and the pain is reduced.

During the patient's initial visit to the clinic, the chiropractic doctor makes an evaluation. It includes a medical history, similar in nature to that taken with any other doctor's visit. Patients undergo a manual exam and many need tests such as x-rays. The chiropractic doctor uses the information gained to develop an appropriate therapy plan to encourage natural healing of one's back problem.

The adjustment is made by applying forces to the outside of one's body, generally along the spine, with the doctor using his hands or special tools. In addition, patients may receive chiropractic massage to relax the tense muscles. Other noninvasive therapies include such methods as cold laser, infrared heat, and UV light.

The chiropractor's education begins at the undergraduate level. Most graduate from college with a four year degree, but a few enter chiropractic college after three years at the undergraduate level. In chiropractic school, they undergo classroom and clinical training. Afterward, some choose to go directly into practice while others will take part in residency programs.

An Anchorage chiropractor may be able to provide relief for your aching back. In the evaluation stages, the doctor first determines if you would benefit from this type of therapy. While most patients do benefit, in some cases, the doctor recommends patients consult with other types of care providers better equipped to meet their needs.
