By Celina Heath

There are a lot of features when it comes to photo scanners nowadays that can make your quality scans look great and acceptable. To effectively do it however you need to learn how to scan a photo. While each company may have its own features and designs, the underlying operations are all the same regardless of the model or design you have.

Use the designed software that a certain device has and master all the functions as well as the features. This will be your first guide to be the best performer in scanning images. There are automatic tools that do the specific settings applicable. These built in functions automatically adjust everything in order to scan correctly.

However, you have to know and realize that you must not all the time rely on the capability of the built in buttons or options. You must decide which is best for a quality outcome. You must preview the result before performing any action. Make your own setting if you do not want the outcome upon previewing.

You must know that these automatic options cannot do all the adjustments for you. They do have their own limitations. They may be good and convenient but there are certain cases beyond their power. To have the desired outcome, you need to do it your own by making your own judgment as to how the object must look like. You can read the provided manual for you to have an idea how to manually do everything.

Upon checking that the image is not presented the way you want it like it may be too light or too dark, use the exposure option to manually adjust the setting. If everything seems not fine after doing it then try to set the midtones. This option will darken or lighten the object to achieve the desired texture.

If the light of the image is too vulgar then adjust the bright control button to come up with the desired setting. It will make the object pure white then eliminating all the unnecessary details on the area of the photo. The same procedure will be applied to darker photos. Set the options as to how you want it to be.

When adjusting the midtones however, the pixels in the darker or brighter area of the image will not be totally affected. Only those pixels beyond the extremes are. This setting will allow you to make the photo lighter or darker without blowing out the adjusted highlights. You can adjust manually the device to come up with more saturation and sharpening of the picture.

Do any controls only if it does require you to do so. If not then leave it that way and be contented. Be always contented of a high quality result. Master the concept of the saturation option that you might also be needing. Do not apply over saturation as the image may tend to be beyond the focus.

Any software can choose the best controls for you but if you think it is not good enough then you can always alter everything. To master how to do it correctly, you must first and foremost learn how to scan your own image. Learn well and everything will follow.
