Story of the Pirelli calendar

By George Dodson

In the news lately, there have been calendars. That's due to the fact that the Mayan calendar foresaw the end of an era and 2012. They predicted a wholesale change in the beginning of a new 5000 year period, although they didn't predict the end of the world. Pirelli calendar is one of the most famous calendars that is not a topic of conversation.

The tire and Cable Company was founded by the famous Pirelli in 1872. At that time, he only employed 45 people. Thousands of people is what the company employs now and earns billions of dollars. The company started the calendar in 1962 as an advertisement ploy. Aiming this calendar at key markets, it originally featured tires. The photographer shot models on the beaches of Cote d'Azur later in the calendars history. To appear in the calendar was the famous model Sophia Loren. In 2007, at the age of 72, her decision to appear in the calendar was quite controversial. That didn't stop Pirelli as the producers of the calendar have always been ahead of their time.

With the coming of the recession due to the oil crisis in 1974, they discontinued the calendar. The calendar wasn't until it started up again 10 years later. In some form or another, the calendar still featured tires until it became more sophisticated. It was not necessary to show the product finally.

You must keep in mind that the production run of this calendar was small and only key people that the Pirelli people wanted had this calendar. It was rare and in demand.

This calendar became very famous around the world eventually. The famous racing team is part of the reason obvious. The best photographers and models started being used by Pirelli for its production. Making a limited number of them and valuable during this time was the decision. Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss and Helena were among the models and the calendars became collectibles.

The narrative changed depending on the photographer. For example, Peter Beard, a famous photographer shot in the wild landscape of Botswana. A free spirit and a natural tone to the layout is what he wanted. Having lived in Africa; Bernard was familiar with the wild natural landscape.

The calendar was printed on lead free paper by the company. what Pirelli wanted is for it to be eco-friendly. Shooting the calendar models, he made sure of the environmental friendliness. In Costa Rico, he worked to protect a forested area, to offset the emissions used for producing the calendar.

Featuring Miranda Kerr, the very latest calendars is shot in Brazil. The narrative features models posing themselves and eating bananas, thus depicting a playful attitude. Each year the Pirelli calendar has a different theme of womanhood. Having a place of honor is achieved by combining creativity, beauty and glamor. Its restriction on ownership and it limited run has added to the excitement.
