Does "Exchanging" Fans rather than Buying them Work?

By Jane Green

For a business or single person to get more followers there are a range of methodologies you can use including buying, exchanging, or drawing in more followers.

Purchasing Fans

When referring to purchasing followers, people do it for numerous reasons, but the most important one is that they think many supporters will improve their plausibility for other "real" Twitter fans that visit their Twitter or Google+ profile.

To an extent, this really is true, but nobody should solely depend on acquired fans seeing as these are often automated and so unresponsive. It is much better to gain proponents for free that are following you because they want to.

Exchanging Followers

Social exchanges like Add Me Fast and You Like Hits are a reliable source for gaining real fans. You can sign on to a social exchange site and then add your links to your profile so that other members can like and follow you on your desired sites. This suggests that they can also get more fans and you can do the same by following them back.

Getting Your Own Fans

Though there are ways of cheating the system and getting proponents in bulk numbers, the most efficient way to get more followers is still to get them yourself by employing several proved techniques:

Profile Picture- Your profile picture desires to stand for you. If you use a social account like Twitter as a corporate account, you may want to use the company's logo as your profile picture. Or if you are the CEO of the company you may want to use an image of you standing in front of your corporation's trademark!

Whatever you choose, always pick a picture - even if you finish up changing it at a later date. Remember that folks will be less likely to trust you and therefore less certain to follow you if they see the default Twitter picture on your profile (the little bluebird).

Bio/Description- Your bio does not need to be excessively detailed, nevertheless it needs to say a bit about who you are. If you can keep it short and easy to understand then even better - the social networking audience are a fast moving one of course , and no one will need to click onto your profile and read your life history. Try and use humour and an easily legible "voice" wherever you can so you can give your fans a little taste of what should be expected from your writing style.

Posts- Your posts - whether or not it is a video link on your Facebook fan page or an easy tweet asking your Twitter proponents a question - is the most efficient way of growing your number of followers and fans. When other social media users see your tweets appear in their feed or because their chum and supporters have retweeted or commented on it, you can get more followers by getting more apparent to other users.
